There is no universal definition for microcredentials...yet.
At Microcredentials Sans Frontières (MCSF), we understand a microcredential is an assessed record of learning achievement related to a skill, competency, or knowledge that has stand alone value with the potential to connect into other learning or achievement systems.

WHat drives US?

Education across the lifespan is a human right (UNESCO, 2019).
Education is a pathway to freedom (UNESCO, 2019).
Decent work and economic growth (UNSDG #8) are fundamentally reliant on quality education (UNSDG #4).
Microcredentials signal a renaissance in recursive learning, personal, and professional development across the lifespan.
Microcredentials open doors: both for working well and living well.

MCSF ORIGINS

The Microcredentials Sans Frontières network was founded by three friends from three different countries with a shared passion for microcredentials and what they represent.

Microcredentials Sans Frontières recognizes microcredentials as the current expression of an ongoing effort to improve education across the lifespan. Many decades of research and thought leadership in alternative pathways, self-directed learning, gamification, and lifelong learning have, and will continue to, contribute to the evolution of this field.

MCSF currently operates in English. Our goal is to support a thriving multilingual microcredential community with webinars, publications, and more. If you have an idea or suggestion on our goal for multilingualism, please send us a message.
